Analysis of unmet medical need status based on the Korean Health Panel

Abstract
Delayed or nonreceipt of medical care may result in more serious illness for the patient, increased complications, a worse prognosis, and longer hospital stays.
This study was aimed to investigate the conditions and association factors of unmet medical needs. 7,371 adults with chronic disease who aged 18 and over were analyzed, based upon the data of the Korean health panel. we analyzed current states of unmet medical need using descriptive statistics. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the main factors associated with unmet medical need.
In result, the significant factors associated with unmet medical need were gender, age, insurance type, household composition, economic activity, income, chronic disease count, CCI, subjective health status. Female, less than 40, one-person households, economic activity, lower income, chronic diseases, perceived poor subjective health status was confirmed unmet medical need probability increases. These results suggest that accessibility of medical care for female and one-person households will have to be improved. It also shows that level of medical security for low income group should be higher.
In the future, these findings can be used as important data for health care policy and assessment.
